Clear Aligners in Sydney and Canberra

Invisalign, Spark and Angel Aligner at Cosmetique Dental

Three Clear Aligner Systems, One Assessment

Cosmetique Dental offers three clear aligner systems across our practices in Sydney and Canberra: Invisalign, Spark and Angel Aligner. Each one straightens teeth with a series of removable, custom-made trays.

Which system suits you, if any, depends on your teeth, gums and bite. We assess these at a complimentary consultation and tell you if braces or a specialist orthodontist would serve you better.

How Clear Aligners Move Teeth

Clear aligners are also known as clear braces, invisible aligners or transparent aligners. Your trays are designed from a digital scan of your teeth. Each set applies gentle pressure for one to two weeks before you change to the next, as your dentist directs.

Trays are worn most of the day, usually 20 to 22 hours. You take them out to eat, to drink anything other than plain water and to clean your teeth.

Aligners are more discreet than metal braces but they are not invisible. Tooth-coloured attachments may be bonded to some teeth and the trays can be seen up close.

What Clear Aligners Can Address

Subject to assessment, clear aligners may be used for:

  • crowded or rotated teeth
  • gaps and spacing
  • some overbite, underbite and crossbite concerns
  • teeth that have shifted since earlier orthodontic treatment

Complex bite or jaw problems may need fixed braces or a specialist referral. See our orthodontics page for the other options we provide.

Invisalign, Spark and Angel Aligner Compared

The three systems share the same approach. They differ in manufacturer, tray material and planning software. Your dentist recommends one after your assessment and explains why.

Clear Aligners or Braces?

Fixed braces stay on the teeth for the length of treatment, which suits some complex movements and means there is nothing to remember to wear.

Aligners can be removed for meals and cleaning, which many adults prefer. Because they are removable, results depend on wearing them as prescribed. We will explain which approach suits your case. See dental braces at Cosmetique Dental.

Your Clear Aligner Treatment

  1. Complimentary consultation. We examine your teeth, gums and bite, take x-rays if needed and talk through your goals and options, including braces or no treatment.
  2. Digital scan and photos. These records are used to design your aligners.
  3. Smile review. You see a 3D simulation of the planned movement. It is a planning aid, not a guaranteed result. You receive a written estimate before deciding.
  4. Wearing your trays. You change trays as directed and attend regular reviews.
  5. Retainers. Retainers help keep teeth in their new position once treatment ends.

Clear Aligner Cost

Our current price guide estimates Invisalign treatment at $4,200 to $8,990 and Spark or Angel Aligner treatment at $3,700 to $8,490. Where you fall within each range depends on the amount of movement needed, the number of aligners and whether refinements are required.

Your first clear aligner consultation is complimentary. Interest-free payment plans are available through external providers, subject to approval. Some private health extras policies with orthodontic cover contribute, so check with your fund. See our full price list.

Risks and Limitations

  • Pressure or tenderness with each new tray
  • Temporary speech changes and irritation of the gums, cheeks or tongue
  • A higher risk of decay and gum inflammation if teeth and trays are not kept clean
  • Root shortening and changes to tooth vitality, which may need further treatment
  • Some planned movements may not be achieved and treatment length cannot be guaranteed
  • Any reshaping of enamel between teeth is irreversible
  • Teeth can relapse if retainers are not worn as directed
