Early access to superannuation for dental treatment is available only in limited circumstances. The ATO assesses applications against its compassionate-release requirements. Our clinic cannot approve an application or guarantee its outcome.
Compassionate release may allow eligible people to access superannuation early for treatment needed to treat a life-threatening illness or injury, or alleviate acute or chronic pain or mental illness. The treatment must not be readily available through the public health system, and the applicant must be unable to meet the expense through other means.
Our role is to assess your dental condition and provide an accurate treatment plan, itemised quote and relevant dental documentation.
Needing implants, crowns, veneers or other dental treatment does not automatically establish eligibility. Treatment sought solely to improve appearance does not, by itself, meet these requirements. The ATO assesses the clinical reason for treatment, supporting evidence and financial circumstances.
Withdrawing super early reduces your retirement savings and future investment earnings. Tax and government benefits may also be affected. Consider treatment alternatives and other ways to meet the cost, and seek independent financial advice before deciding.

3. Supporting Documentation
Check the ATO’s current requirements for supporting reports. Our clinic can provide an accurate treatment plan, itemised quote and relevant dental documentation following clinical assessment.
4. ATO Assessment and Fund Release
The ATO assesses the application. If approved, you must also complete your super fund’s release requirements. Approval and payment dates are not guaranteed.
