Missing one or more teeth? At Cosmetique Dental™, we offer custom-crafted dental bridges in Sydney and Canberra to restore the continuity and function of your teeth. A bridge is a fixed, non-surgical solution that uses neighbouring healthy teeth as anchors to support a replacement tooth. Each restoration is meticulously designed by our dentists and hand-crafted by our master ceramists to create a durable restoration designed to blend with surrounding teeth.
A dental bridge is a fixed restoration designed to fill the space left by one or more missing teeth. The most common type consists of two main components:
At Cosmetique Dental™, our in-house master ceramists, with over 15 years of experience, use high-quality porcelain to ensure your bridge is strong and visually consistent with your natural teeth.
A dental bridge is a suitable treatment option for patients who are missing one or several teeth in a row and have healthy, strong teeth on both sides of the gap to serve as anchors. It is a well-established and effective solution for patients seeking a fixed, non-removable alternative to a partial denture, without undergoing a surgical procedure.
This Treatment May Be Suitable For:
The process for creating a dental bridge is a partnership between your dentist and our master ceramist, focused on achieving a perfect fit and a seamless aesthetic. The entire journey is typically completed over two main visits.
After a consultation, your dentist prepares the two anchor teeth on either side of the gap. This involves reshaping them to create space for the abutment crowns. A local anaesthetic is used to ensure your comfort.
We take a precise digital scan of the prepared teeth and the gap. A temporary bridge is then placed. This protects your teeth and restores function while your final, permanent restoration is being custom-made.
Your digital scans are sent to our in-house lab. Here, our master ceramists meticulously design and hand-craft your final porcelain bridge, ensuring the colour, shape, and size closely match your surrounding teeth.
At your final appointment, the temporary bridge is removed. Your permanent bridge is then fitted, and your dentist will meticulously check its appearance, fit, and your bite, making any necessary adjustments to ensure a proper fit and comfortable outcome.
Dental bridges restore missing teeth but require preparation of supporting teeth and regular maintenance.
Possible Risks:
Recovery and Aftercare:
With proper care and excellent oral hygiene, a well-made dental bridge is a durable, long-term solution that can last for 10 to 15 years or more, depending on oral care and the condition of supporting teeth. The longevity of a bridge depends heavily on the health and strength of the supporting abutment teeth and the surrounding gums.
Maintaining a consistent cleaning routine is crucial. This includes brushing, flossing, and using special tools like a floss threader to clean underneath the pontic. Regular check-ups at our Sydney or Canberra clinics will ensure we can monitor the health of your bridge and supporting teeth.
Both a bridge and a dental implant are suitable solutions for replacing a missing tooth, but they function differently. A dental bridge uses the adjacent teeth as anchors for a false tooth. This requires placing crowns on the two neighbouring teeth, even if they are healthy.
A dental implant, on the other hand, is a standalone solution that does not involve adjacent teeth. A titanium post is placed directly into the jawbone to act as a new tooth root, and a crown is attached to it. Your dentist will discuss the pros and cons of each option based on your specific clinical situation, bone health, and long-term goals.
Cleaning under a bridge requires a slightly different technique than cleaning around natural teeth and may require some practice to master. Since the bridge is a single, connected unit, you cannot floss between the teeth in the traditional way. Instead, you will need to use a special tool to thread floss underneath the pontic.
Tools like a floss threader, interdental brushes, or a water flosser are highly effective for removing plaque and food debris from under the bridge and around the abutment crowns. Our team will demonstrate the best techniques to ensure you can easily and effectively care for your new restoration.

Bridges are long-lasting, but they may chip, loosen, or develop decay at the margins. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are essential to protect them.
