Spark is a clear aligner system made by Ormco, a US orthodontic manufacturer. It moves teeth with a series of removable trays in the same way as Invisalign. Cosmetique Dental offers Spark alongside Invisalign and Angel Aligner at our practices in Sydney and Canberra.
Spark is recommended only after we have assessed your teeth, gums and bite. If another system, braces or a specialist referral would suit you better, we will tell you.
Spark trays are made from TruGEN, a material Ormco says is designed for clarity and stain resistance. Ormco also says the trays have polished, scalloped edges for comfort, although how a tray feels is individual.
Your dentist plans treatment in Ormco’s Approver software, which allows attachments, cut-outs and bite ramps where needed. Spark trays are not invisible and can be noticed up close.
Both use custom trays, digital planning and staged tray changes. They differ in manufacturer, material and software.

Angel Aligner, from Angelalign Technology, uses masterControl S trays planned on iOrtho software. It treats a similar range of cases, subject to assessment. See our Angel aligners page.
Spark may suit mild to moderate crowding or spacing, some bite concerns or teeth that have shifted since earlier treatment, provided you can wear the trays consistently.
Ormco advises treating active gum disease before starting. Complex jaw or bite problems may be better suited to braces or a specialist.
Our current price guide estimates Spark treatment at $3,700 to $8,490, $500 less than our Invisalign estimate of $4,200 to $8,990. Where you fall within each range depends on the amount of movement needed, the number of aligners and whether refinements are required.
Your first clear aligner consultation is complimentary. Interest-free payment plans are available through external providers, subject to approval. Some private health extras policies with orthodontic cover contribute, so check with your fund. See our full price list.
Spark has the same risks as other aligner treatment, including soreness with new trays, temporary speech changes, gum irritation, decay if hygiene slips, root shortening and movements that are not fully achieved. Teeth can move back without retainers. Read about treatment risks, recovery and alternatives.
