Prompt Care When You Need It Most
Dental emergencies can be a source of significant pain and anxiety, often appearing without warning. At Cosmetique Dental™, our compassionate team is here to help. We offer prompt emergency dentistry services across our 9 locations in Sydney and Canberra to diagnose and treat your urgent dental issues, helping to alleviate your pain and address the underlying problem as quickly as possible.
What Is Emergency Dentistry?
Emergency dentistry is the provision of immediate care for acute dental problems that require prompt attention. This can range from sudden toothaches and infections to traumatic injuries like a broken or knocked-out tooth. The primary goal of an emergency appointment is to relieve pain, address the immediate issue to prevent it from worsening, and establish a plan for any further treatment that may be required.
Whether your situation requires a simple assessment and prescription or a more involved procedure like a filling or extraction, our priority is your comfort and well-being. We understand that dental pain can put your life on hold, and we are committed to providing timely and effective care.
Who Requires Urgent Dental Care?
Emergency dental care is for any patient experiencing sudden, severe pain, injury, or other symptoms that cannot wait for a routine appointment. We understand that fear, anxiety, or a busy schedule may have kept you from visiting a dentist for many years. This is common and nothing to be embarrassed about. Our team is here to help you without judgment, no matter the circumstances.
You May Need Urgent Care For:
- A severe, persistent, or throbbing toothache.
- A broken, cracked, or chipped tooth.
- A tooth that has been knocked out.
- A lost filling or crown.
- An abscess, which can present as a painful swelling on the gum.
- Uncontrolled bleeding or significant pain following a dental procedure.
- Visible swelling in the face, jaw, or neck area.
A Process Focused on Relief and Resolution
Our emergency dental process is designed to be straightforward and efficient, focusing on getting you out of pain and providing a clear path forward.
1. Immediate Contact and Triage
The first step is to contact us immediately. Our friendly team will listen to your symptoms, provide initial advice, and schedule the earliest possible appointment for you.
Visit our emergency dentist clinics in North Sydney, the Sydney CBD, Bondi Junction, Parramatta, Macquarie Park, Hornsby and Canberra for urgent dental care.
2. Prompt Assessment and Diagnosis
At your appointment, your dentist will perform a focused examination to diagnose the cause of your emergency. This may involve taking a digital x-ray of the affected area to get a clear picture of the problem.
3. Pain Relief and Immediate Treatment
Our first priority is to relieve your pain. We will then discuss the findings with you and recommend the most appropriate immediate treatment to address the emergency, whether it’s a filling, drainage of an abscess, or another procedure.
4. Planning for Future Care
Once the immediate issue is stabilised, your dentist will explain if any further treatment is needed to fully resolve the problem. We will provide you with a clear, long-term treatment plan and answer any questions you may have.

FAQs About Emergency Dentistry Sydney and Canberra
What should I do if my tooth gets knocked out?
Acting quickly can increase the chances of saving the tooth. If possible, find the tooth and handle it only by the crown (the chewing surface), not the root. Gently rinse it with milk or saliva, but do not scrub it or use water. Try to place the tooth back into its socket and hold it in place by biting down on a clean cloth.
If you cannot re-insert the tooth, place it in a small container of milk or hold it in your mouth between your cheek and gum. It is crucial to contact us and see a dentist immediately, ideally within the hour, as time is a critical factor in the success of reimplantation.
I have a severe toothache. What does it mean?
A severe and persistent toothache is a sign that something is wrong and should not be ignored. It can be caused by a number of issues, including deep decay, a dental abscess (infection), a cracked tooth, or an issue with a filling. The pain can range from a dull ache to a sharp, electric sensation, and may be accompanied by swelling or redness.
It is important to contact us for a proper diagnosis. While you wait for your appointment, you can try rinsing your mouth with warm salt water and taking over-the-counter pain relief medication, but these are only temporary measures. Professional assessment is necessary to treat the underlying cause.
