The Journey of a Single Dental Implant Placement and Restoration

Missing a single tooth? I know it can affect your smile and confidence, but a dental implant offers a fantastic, long-term solution that looks and feels very natural. Many people ask about the process, so let’s walk through the typical journey for placing and restoring a single dental implant.

It always starts with a consultation.

We’ll chat about your specific situation, check the health of your mouth, and determine if an implant is the best option for you. We use advanced 3D scans to get a really detailed look at your jawbone, making sure there’s enough healthy bone to support the implant. This allows us to plan the exact position for the implant digitally, ensuring precision.

The next step is a minor surgical procedure to place the implant itself.

This is usually done very comfortably, often just with local anaesthetic. The small, titanium implant post, which acts like an artificial tooth root, is carefully placed into the jawbone according to our digital plan. Then, the area is left to heal.

Now comes an important waiting period, typically a few months.

During this time, something amazing happens called osseointegration, where your jawbone naturally fuses with the titanium implant, making it incredibly strong and stable, just like a natural root. We might provide a temporary replacement tooth during this phase if needed.

Once the implant has fully bonded with your bone, you’ll come back in for the next step.

We attach a small connector piece, called an abutment, to the top of the implant. This little piece sits just above the gum line and acts as the base for your final tooth. We then take precise impressions, often digitally, to create your custom crown.

Finally, your custom-made crown, the part that looks like a tooth, is ready.

It’s carefully designed to match the colour and shape of your surrounding natural teeth. We securely attach this crown to the abutment, check your bite, and make sure everything looks and feels perfect. We’ll also give you tips on your new implant.

And that’s the journey! From consultation to the final tooth, it’s a step-by-step process aimed at giving you a fixed, functional, and natural-looking replacement for your missing tooth.
