The type of dental treatment alone does not determine eligibility for compassionate release of superannuation. The ATO assesses the clinical reason for treatment, the supporting evidence and your financial circumstances.
Treatment must meet the relevant requirements, such as treating a life-threatening illness or injury, or alleviating acute or chronic pain or mental illness. Treatment sought solely for appearance is not sufficient. Your practitioners must assess your actual condition and provide accurate supporting reports.
The treatment must not be readily available through the public health system, and you must be unable to meet the expense through other means.
