Spark and Invisalign are clear aligner systems that move teeth with a series of removable, custom-made trays. They follow the same treatment steps and suit a similar range of cases. The differences are the manufacturer, the tray material and the planning software. At our practice, Spark is estimated at $500 less than Invisalign.

What they have in common
- Trays are designed from a digital scan of your teeth
- They are worn most of the day and removed to eat, drink anything other than plain water and clean your teeth
- Tooth-coloured attachments may be bonded to some teeth
- A simulation of the planned movement is reviewed first. It is a planning aid, not a guarantee
- Regular reviews, then retainers once treatment ends
Where they differ
Who makes them
Invisalign is made by Align Technology. Spark is made by Ormco, an orthodontic company that also makes brackets and wires.
Tray material
Ormco says Spark’s TruGEN material is designed for clarity and stain resistance, with polished, scalloped edges. Invisalign uses SmartTrack. Comfort is individual and some patients notice little difference.
Planning software
Invisalign is planned in ClinCheck and Spark in Approver. Both show the planned movement step by step and Ormco says Approver also supports cut-outs, hooks and bite ramps.
Is one better?
Neither is better for everyone. Manufacturer comparisons are marketing claims rather than independent evidence. An accurate diagnosis, careful planning and wearing the trays as prescribed usually matter more than the brand. We recommend a system after your assessment and explain why.
Cost
Our current price guide estimates Invisalign treatment at $4,200 to $8,990 and Spark or Angel Aligner treatment at $3,700 to $8,490. Within each range, your fee depends on your treatment plan. Your first clear aligner consultation is complimentary and interest-free payment plans are available through external providers, subject to approval.
Risks
All aligner systems carry similar risks, including soreness with new trays, temporary speech changes, gum irritation, decay if hygiene slips, root shortening and movements that are not fully achieved. Read about treatment risks, recovery and alternatives.
