Hornsby Porcelain Veneers Ryan's Treatment Overview

Case Note: Can Porcelain Veneers Correct Tooth Shape and Colour in Hornsby?

Presenting Clinical Problem

A 32-year-old patient from the Hornsby area presented with concerns about the shape, alignment, and overall brightness of the upper teeth. Many people in Hornsby ask whether porcelain veneers can be used to improve both tooth colour and contour within the same treatment plan.

Clinical examination identified the following:

  • Alignment Issues: Upper front teeth displayed mild irregularities that disrupted the smile line.
  • Tooth Shape Concerns: Variations in form created asymmetry across the anterior arch.
  • Discolouration: General shade was darker than desired, with uneven brightness across different teeth.

The clinical objective was to refine tooth shape, harmonise shade, and establish a symmetrical smile line while maintaining structural integrity.

Treatment Plan & Clinical Process

A phased approach was implemented at our Hornsby clinic.

Phase 1: Diagnostic & Planning

Diagnostic records were taken, including photography, impressions, and bite analysis. Digital Smile Design was used to visualise the intended outcome, allowing for detailed planning of tooth proportion, midline, and symmetry.

This step ensured that both functional and aesthetic factors were considered before treatment commenced.

Phase 2: Tooth Preparation & Temporisation

Minimal enamel reduction was carried out to preserve natural tooth structure while creating space for veneers. Temporary veneers were fabricated and placed to test aesthetics, bite stability, and speech function.

The patient wore these provisionals for a short period, enabling adjustments to be made for improved accuracy before the final restorations were fabricated.

Phase 3: Veneer Fabrication & Placement

Ten porcelain veneers were custom designed for the upper teeth in collaboration with a dental ceramist. Shade and contour were carefully matched to achieve uniformity. The final placement was performed using adhesive bonding protocols under rubber dam isolation, which optimised bonding conditions.

Following insertion, occlusal adjustments were made to ensure balanced bite contacts and prevent premature wear.

Phase 4: Post-Treatment Review

Follow-up reviews were scheduled to confirm function, check bonding integrity, and ensure the veneers adapted well within daily use. This step also allowed early identification of any adjustments required for long-term stability.

Clinical Outcome

The treatment plan achieved the intended results:

  • Tooth alignment was improved, creating a more even smile line.
  • Shape variations were corrected, producing a symmetrical anterior arch.
  • Veneers provided consistent brightness across the teeth, addressing previous discolouration.
  • Enamel received reinforcement through veneer coverage, supporting durability.

This case demonstrates that porcelain veneers may be considered for Hornsby patients presenting with a combination of discolouration, irregular shape, and mild misalignment.
