Tooth Filling Cost
A tooth that has been damaged or decayed needs to be filled as soon as possible. If left untreated, bacteria that causes caries may spread deeper into the cavity causing irreversible infection.
This may also lead to pain in the affected area or, worse, tooth loss. Dental fillings can help prevent further decay and restore a tooth’s structural integrity and function.
One should consistently visit the dentist every 6 months for a routine check-up. This can detect early signs of decay or damage, which then will prevent further tooth loss and wear.
A dental filling is a dental procedure where the dentist removes the decayed area of the tooth and fills the cavity with restorative material such as composite resin, amalgam, GIC, or gold. This procedure aims to bring back the tooth’s shape, function, strength, and aesthetics.
How much does a filling cost?
There are several types of material that will determine a dental filling cost. The surface of tooth, the kind of tooth, the size of the cavity; all of these will determine how much is a filling.
It is best to schedule a separate consultation appointment first so that our dentist Sydney can check your existing oral health condition. This will determine how many teeth are needed to be filled, and how many appointments will be done to fulfill the procedures.
One factor that will determine the dental filling price is the kind of tooth filling needed for your case. There are two kinds of tooth filling: direct and indirect.
DIRECT TOOTH FILLING
This kind of restoration is directly done in the mouth during the same visit or appointment. This is a more affordable tooth filling cost in Sydney compared to indirect ones.
- Composite fillings
These are made of tooth-coloured resin material that is bonded to the tooth using an adhesive. This is highly polishable, and most used in restorative dentistry due to its appearance and ease of use. This is usually the material of choice for small to medium-sized cavities.
- Amalgam
This material is made up of a mixture of metals, including silver, tin, copper, and mercury. They are very durable and long-lasting although their appearance is far less aesthetically pleasing compared to composite material. This type of material is not offered anymore in any of our clinics.
- Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC)
This material is mostly comparable to composite fillings since they are also tooth-coloured. Although it is not possible to polish GIC fillings on the same day of appointment, it is highly used in areas difficult to access and where moisture control will be difficult. This has a fluoride release that can aid in the prevention of tooth decay.
INDIRECT TOOTH FILLING
Indirect tooth filling costs more than direct fillings. Laboratory pricing will determine how much does a filling cost.
As these are done outside of the mouth, indirect fillings are usually made of ceramic or porcelain materials. They provide greater durability than direct materials and give a more natural look to the tooth.
Tooth filling cost Sydney will depend on the above factors. The biggest factor that will affect a dental filling price is the material of choice.
